The transformation of raw materials
Maize Maize

Maize grain is the predominant source of starch in developed countries. Over 2.5 million tonnes of maize are processed every year by Roquette. In Europe, Roquette uses maize from EU sources, mainly France, where the company has several grain silos and forwarding centres. Close contact is maintained with specialist breeders in the quest for special hybrids such as waxy (rich in amylopectin) and the amylose-rich types. Experimental cultivation is carried out to help select varieties better suited to European conditions. In the USA, the Keokuk plant is located in the heart of the main cultivation zone.

Potatoes Potatoes

The starch obtained from potatoes has particularly useful technical characteristics much in demand in paper manufacturing as well as in many other industries. Roquette processes more than one million tonnes of potatoes during a normal campaign. The entire crop is processed during the autumn and stored as starch for marketing or for further processing. Contracts are signed annually with more than 2,500 farmers covering 25,000 hectares of production. The company participates in a number of agricultural and plant development research projects

Wheat Wheat

Wheat is the sole source of vital gluten, a unique protein. Due to the abundance of European harvests, wheat is also an additional cost-effective starch resource.
Roquette processes more than 1 million tonnes of French wheat annually. To ensure that only optimum quality wheats are used, the company collects and tests many hundreds of samples of different varieties each year.
